Commonly Traded Species List

Listed below are some of the more commonly traded species together with their licensing requirements.
NOTE: This is not a complete list -

Please refer to CITES Apx 1;11 & 111; EC Regs 338/97; Habitats Reg; WCA Schedule 5; MBTA; among other regulations.

This list is constantly being updated due to movements of species/Regulations - always check and double check.

All CITES listed species will require Export permits from the EU and Import permits into the EU. Those listed Apx 1 will also need Import permits into non European countries.

HOW TO USE THIS TABLE.

EXAMPLE: BULLFINCH: Follow the row across and you will see that the species is N/L(Not listed)-under EC Regs 338/97, therefore NO licence is required in regard to that regulation; the species is N/L(Not listed)-under WCA Schedule 5 therefore NO licence is required under that Act, and the species is N/L = (Not Listed) CITES - therefore no Import/Export licence is required when dealing outside of the E.U.

EXAMPLE: BARN OWL: Follow the row across and you will see that the species requires an Article 10 Licence (if the specimen originates after 1947); it is N/L (Not listed) under WCA Schedule 5, therefore no licence is required under that Act and the species is listed CITES Appendix 11 (2) therefore will require Import/Export Licenses when dealing outside of the E.U.

Remember all sales of UK/European Birds are covered by the automatic WCA General Licence (other than some Game species)

In the case of Brown Bear, the american population is not listed Annex "A" - however the European population is - check the origin prior to sale

In the case of Caracal, the Asian population requires an Article 10 licence, whereas the African population does not. Check the origin prior to sale.

In the case of Puma, most subspecies do not require an Article 10, however 3 subspecies do. - Check the origin prior to sale.

In the case of Wolf, it is best to treat all populations as listed Annex "A" - however some European populations (those of Spain north of the Duero & Greece north of the 39th parallel) are listed Annex "B" and will not require a licence to sell within the E.U. - Check the origin prior to sale
